If you haven’t seen Miyoko Shida’s breathtaking performance in Spain’s “Tú Sí Que Vales” (You Can Do It), it’s worth watching. I found myself holding my breath throughout, worried on her behalf. What she demonstrates in poise, concentration, and dexterity is astounding and an artform in a league of its own.

Wow. This absolutely incredible rendition of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” by Canadian astronaut Commander Chris Hadfield took my breath away. Watching it gave me goosebumps… and I couldn’t help but watch it a few more times.

I’m going to miss Chris Hadfield’s fantastic updates… Inspiring, educational, funny. This is the best possible send off I can think (or wouldn’t have thought) of.

Bravo, Commander Hadfield.

Possibly the coolest and most functional solar charger I’ve seen yet - this little “window socket” sticks on your window with suction and uses solar panels on the back to capture sunlight to power the socket.

Created by designers, Kyuho Song and Boa Oh, the socket is a simple, yet ingenius way to power your devices.

“We tried to design a portable socket, so that users can use it intuitively without special training…”

I’d say they succeeded.

I was absolutely blown away by the series of incredible ceramic pottery pieces created by Mary O’Malley, a ceramics artist from New York. These pieces are part of Mary’s “Bottom Feeder” collection, which has been inspired by the ocean. Each exquisite piece looks like it’s been resting on an ocean floor for decades, wrapped gently with barnacles, seaweed, and other creatures like octopus or starfish.

Mary has other pieces as well that were inspired from other experiences in her life. A fuller article about her can be found in the Artizen Magazine. Mary’s work can also be found on Etsy and Facebook.

“Hedonism(y) Trojaner”

Artist, Babis Pangiotidis, created his version of the Trojan horse out of resin and hundreds of recycled computer keys and cables.

The horse was inspired by the original mythological story of the Trojan Horse that the Greeks built and used to get into the city of Troy, which was a ploy that led them to win the war. Babis’ Trojan Horse also references the computer virus by the same name and provides a commentary on the duality of our use of the internet for entertainment, communication, and function, but also the risks attached to it.

10,000 iPhones Domino

Aatma Studios has created a concept of making an incredibly long, elaborate, and visual domino with 10,000 iPhones. Complete with a motion sensored freight elevator and lit up iPhone screens that create a particularly powerful end sequence.

The whole sequence is actually all done in CG as a visualization of what could be if Apple included a “near field communications” feature in future products. Only the first iPhone was real. According to Laughing Squid, Aatma Studios regularly showcases “imagined future versions of the devices”.

Still, a very cool concept. Even if it’s CG, it’s impressive.

Ever wondered what happens to water when you wring it out of a towel in space? Kendra Lemke and Meredith Faulkner did, who were two Grade 10 students from the Lockview High School in Nova Scotia. They had submitted their experiment on surface tension in space using a wet washcloth to a national science contest run by the Canadian Space Agency and won. In response, Canadian Space Agency astronaut, Chris Hadfield, shows what happens to water from a washcloth in space.

After Dove’s launch of their successful “Real Beauty” campaign, New Feelings Time created their own parody for men. The video follows the same storyline of the experiment with the forensic artist sketching anonymous faces he can’t see based on their description of themselves, but this time, his subjects are men. What comes next… well, you’ll have to watch to find out.
